Obituary for Mildred E Johnson

Mildred E Johnson
Mildred Evelyn Johnson went to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, August 29, 2017. She was 97 years old.

She is survived by her children Robert Cochran, Sandra Stone, Reverend David Cochran and their spouses, Gethie Cochran, Rocky Stone and Martha Cochran. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and other family members and friends.

Mildred was born in Washington, PA on August 30, 1919 to Luther and Hazel Ammons. She was the younger of two children and survived her brother Harold Ammons who died November 28, 2008 at the age of 93.

Mildred graduated from Brownsville High School in 1937. She was a varsity cheerleader for four years. She also loved acting and had a lead role in her High School play. She was 15 years old. She later won the 1937 Brownsville Arts Festival Dance. Millie Ammons was appropriately nicknamed “Boogie Woogie Moogie” by her friends.

Mildred was 19 years old when she married Edwin Sylvester Cochran. They had three children, Robert Alan, Sandra Kay and David Ross. The family moved to Houston, Texas in 1949 joining her parents Luther and Hazel owners of Ammons grocery in Manchester, Texas.

Mildred was wed to Leonard Linroe Johnson in 1953. Leonard, known for his toughness, grew up in East Texas. He left school at the age of 16 and worked as a lumberjack. Mildred’s life with Leonard was nothing less than an action movie. Leonard was a volunteer Police Officer, a Bail Bondsman and a Bounty Hunter. Cleveland “Big Cat” Williams, heavy weight contender who fought Mohammed Ali, once said of Leonard, “He scares me!”

Moogie, a self-taught organist, entertained her family and friends with her voice, her dress-up impersonations and her pranks for as long as anyone can remember. At the age of 87, she played the role of “Old Joe”, a street person in an amateur video production. One can truthfully say, “Moogie got talent.”

Mildred Johnson was respected for her deep faith in God. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior in 1954 and led her family to Pasadena Assembly Of God Church. In 1986, Mildred joined her son David to support his ministry. David and his wife Martha are pastors of Fields of Harvest Church in Baytown, Texas.

The family will hold the visitation and viewing, Monday, September 4, 2017 from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm at Fields of Harvest church, 1001 Memorial drive, Baytown, Texas. Funeral services will also be held at Fields of Harvest Church on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 10:00 am. Internment will follow at Grandview cemetery, 8501 Spencer Highway, LaPorte, Texas.
